The Lingala Language

Lingala (or Ngala, Lingala: Lingála) is a Bantu language spoken in the northwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the northern half of the Republic of the Congo, in their capitals, Kinshasa and Brazzaville, and to a lesser degree in Angola, the Central African Republic, Kenya and southern South Sudan. Lingala has 20 million native speakers and about another 20 million second-language speakers, for an approximate total of 40 million speakers.

  1. Lingala is a Bantu language spoken primarily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.
  2. It is one of the four national languages of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is widely used in urban areas, especially in Kinshasa.
  3. Lingala has two forms: a formal, standardised version used in media and education, and a more informal, colloquial version used in daily conversation.
  4. The language was heavily influenced by missionaries and colonial administrators, who helped spread its use.
  5. Lingala is the primary language of Congolese popular music, including soukous, which has international recognition.

About Melbourne
Melbourne

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city in the state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia. The Melbourne City Centre is the hub of the greater metropolitan area and the Census statistical division—of which "Melbourne" is the common name. As of June 2010, the greater geographical area had an approximate population of four million. Inhabitants of Melbourne are called Melburnians or Melbournians.

The metropolis is located on the large natural bay known as Port Phillip, with the city centre positioned at the estuary of the Yarra River (at the northernmost point of the bay). The metropolitan area then extends south from the city centre, along the eastern and western shorelines of Port Phillip, and expands into the hinterland. The city centre is situated in the municipality known as the City of Melbourne, and the metropolitan area consists of a further 30 municipalities.
